Faced with the dangers of disinformation and the resulting consequences that result, many journalists fight to give the voice to the populations. They rely on principles highlighting humans, authenticity and neutrality . After taking over Radio Agatashya, created in 1994 to support the victims of the genocide in Rwanda, the Hirondelle Foundation, Media for Peace and Human Dignity, develops a multitude of projects in Africa. In fact, several media such as Radio Ndeke Luka (Central African Republic), Studio Kalangou (Niger), Tamani studio (Mali) or Studio Yafa (Burkina Faso) are emerging, with the same objectives: promoting dialogue, making everyone's voices heard, and ensuring reliable information of multiple and verified sources.

According to contexts (security, food, climatic), the dissemination of information can make it possible to react effectively, or even save lives. Fake-News can cause irreversible damage to a community. Many witnesses explain to Radio Ndeke that the circulation of erroneous facts caused death repeatedly following the reaction they have aroused (crowd, panic, jealousy movement).

Quality journalism thanks to ethical and methodical processes

To fight against this scourge, the media supported by the Hirondelle Foundation deploy different methods: rigorous fact-check (analyze and favor the multiplicity of sources), follow-up of training in the verification of facts (such as the use of the search for inverted images or the open source), awareness campaigns of disinformation, collection of testimonies, citizens, accessibility of information. In the Central African Republic, the Ndeke Luka Radio media is the most listened to. The members of the chain set up five "barriers' gestures" against false information: questioning the origin of the info or the image, taking care of the sensors, checking the reliability and the relevance of the sources, ensuring that the information is taken up by credible media, and examine the images and their origin.

The media like Studio Tamani, Studio Kalangou and Studio Yafa, promote dialogue and broadcast their programs in several languages, which makes it possible to reach a large number of people. The Kalangou studio was certified by journalist Trust Initiative , a label that meets the principles of ethical and authentic journalism. He is the first media in Africa to obtain this distinction. On both sides, many of them lead to the fight against the ravages of disinformation while warning citizens, and to work to maintain peace and stability.
