Africa at the bottom of the ranking
Each year, the NGO Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) establishes a list of countries of the world. It is based from a point of view of their press freedom in 180 countries. A classification based on surveys transmitted to journalists and specialists members of RSF partner organizations.

To carry out its classification, RSF uses five indicators to give a global vision of press freedom:
➡️ the legal framework
➡️ the economic context
➡️ policy
➡️ socio -cultural
➡️ security
According to the 2022 report, RSF believes that the countries of Northern Europe such as Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands are the countries with the most freedom in the press. Iran, China and Russia, for their part, incorporate the "red" list. Regarding Africa, he is a bad. The African continent occupies the penultimate position.
Although some African countries are well positioned, such as Côte-d'Ivoire (37 th ), Burkina Faso (41 th ) , Niger (59 th ), the table of the African press remains dark. Political instability and states strengthen the degradation of media working conditions. According to RSF, "freedom of information takes several faces" on this continent, or coexist both the abundant press and the museum of private media.
Censuration of the press in Africa
Mali occupies 111 th place worldwide. The restriction of individual freedoms in progress against multiple media ( France 24 and Radio France International ) is fully assumed by Bamako. Not long ago, the High Authority for Communication suspended the Joliba TV News information media for a period of 2 months. A conviction following "defamatory remarks" against the Goverä government. Recently, his neighbor Burkina-Faso is increasingly worried.

On December 18, 2022, media organizations (OPM) condemned the "questioning of press freedom (...) a desire to dictate content to the media and condition the opinions of journalists and those of populations in general". A decision taken by the transitional regime led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

For the secretary general of RSF "journalism is the best vaccine against disinformation. Unfortunately, its production and distribution are too often blocked by political, economic, technological and cultural factors. Faced with the virality of disinformation, the journalist is the main guarantor for public debate. It is based on a diversity of established facts ”.
