The RCA is classified 101st out of 180 countries for press freedom by RSF in 2022. Journalists face censorship, arrests and daily violence. A law of 2020 theoretically protects the press, but in practice, independent journalism remains hampered.
In Gabon, the development of free media is hampered by the severe sanctions of the regulator. Despite the long fight of journalists for full freedom of expression, disinformation remains prevalent, limiting objective information to the population.
In Burkina Faso, despite current challenges, the press remains relatively free, classified 41st out of 180 for the independence of the media according to Reporters Sans Frontières in 2022.

On February 13, 2023 marked the 12th International Radio Day, established by UNESCO in 2011. This day celebrates this essential media, particularly in Africa, under the theme "Radio and Peace", encouraging stations to disseminate messages of benevolence.
