In a world increasingly invaded by false information, Côte d'Ivoire has established itself as a key player in the fight against this scourge thanks to an innovative initiative: Ivory Check . Launched in 2020 thanks to the COVVI-19 health crisis, this independent and impartial project is a direct response to the urgency of strengthening the reliability of media content.
Supported by the network of online press professionals from Côte d'Ivoire (Repprelci), an association of journalists founded in 2006 in Abidjan, Ivory Check is not limited to the national scene. As a founding member of the African Fact-Checkers Platform (PAFF), this project also contributes to the fight against disinformation at the continent.
A national and continental commitment
Ivory Check aims to guarantee the reliability of information in Côte d'Ivoire while sharing its expertise with its French -speaking African partners.
The platform leads several essential missions:
➡ The collaborative verification of the facts: it identifies and corrects info in partnership with national and regional writing, thus strengthening the integrity of the information.
➡ The strengthening of media credibility: it is a question of restoring confidence between citizens and the media in Côte d'Ivoire and in the sub-region.
➡ The media education: it makes the public aware of the importance of consuming reliable content and recognizing false information.
Through the African French-speaking Fact-Checkers (PAFF) platform, Ivory Check contributes to structuring an African network of French-speaking factors, thus promoting the exchange of good practices and the development of collective expertise. By integrating the paff, Ivory Check affirms its position as a leader and demonstrates the importance of the Pan -African collaboration to counter the rise of info.
An already visible impact, but persistent challenges
Since its creation, Ivory Check has played a key role in verifying a lot of erroneous information, especially during the COVVI-19 health crisis where the spread of rumors could have had serious consequences. Its involvement in the paff also strengthens synergy between French -speaking actors in the fight against disinformation.
However, several challenges remain in particular:
➡ Financial constraints: Resource needs to acquire high -performance tools and train journalists remain important.
➡ The dresses of local contexts: adapting the tools and methods of verification to the specificities of the different French -speaking countries constitutes a major challenge.
➡ The widening of the audience: although the platform has a significant impact, it still has to intensify its awareness efforts to reach a wider audience and maximize its efficiency.
An initiative of hope
Ivory Check does not only represent a national advance, but also an example to follow for French -speaking countries in Africa. His integration into the Paff offers him the opportunity to share his expertise while enriching himself with the experiences of his peers, thus strengthening the impact and the efficiency of his actions.
In a context where the fight against disinformation is crucial for democracy, Ivory Check embodies an exemplary and collaborative response to a global issue, while consolidating the role of French -speaking African media on the international scene.
