In the DRC, the fight against disinformation and for press freedom continues

The minister himself found himself confronted with fake-news many times. Last July, many publications on social networks accuse Patrick Muyaya of wanting to close the Facebook and Tik Tok . This disinformation causes a wave of fears in the country, insofar as these two networks are important tools for the economy and for the work of several people. But these allegations are false, the Minister's words are mentioned out of context. In addition, he declares that he wanted to work with the networks in order to protect minors and children in the face of violent images and inappropriate content. Scourges against which also fight the two platforms.

Earlier in the month, on August 25, Patrick Muyaya launched a distrust of distrust of disinformation, denying the rumor circulating on a cessation of free primary education , established since 2019. In March, he encouraged media women to continue the fight against fake-new.

In the DRC, press freedom is put to the test. In addition to disinformation, many journalists face violence, arbitrary detentions and censorship. Recently, journalist Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala is released after several months' imprisonment, a victim of a mounted. In June, journalist Tatiana Osango was violently assaulted for having criticized the president of the DRC. The recent meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the Estates General of Communication and the Media can be an opportunity to continue the struggle for a safer and less dangerous freedom of expression for journalists.
